Our Vision
At St. George’s we are committed to providing children with a loving, energetic and fun program that allows them to explore, question and nurture their faith. A dedicated group of adult volunteers work with our children ages 3 thru Grade 6 combining traditional classroom education with more contemporary free form activities. Recognizing the busy schedule of families these days we structure our program to accommodate children who are able to attend each Sunday as well as those who are able to join us less frequently.
Key aspects of our program
At St. George’s our goal is to deliver programming that provides children with:
- a safe and inviting place that children enjoy attending
- the opportunity to explore, question and nurture their faith while sharing the issues and thoughts that matter to them in their daily lives
- the opportunity to meet and make new friends of all ages
- a community where they can work with others on Outreach projects and realize the impact they can have, regardless of their age, in helping others.
How Sunday School Works
Sunday School is offered during the 10:00 a.m. service of Worship from September to June. Children begin each Sunday in church with their family, participate in the beginning of the service and move downstairs after a children’s focus. Once in the church hall all children gather together for approximately 10 minutes for our opening activities, and to discuss upcoming events or special activities.
Then the children head to class, divided by age/grade, where they work with a volunteer teacher on age appropriate materials from the Sunday School curriculum, which includes Bible stories, crafts, games, and activities based around a Bible story or verse.
We finish our session by regathering as a large group to sing with our music director, Rob.
Adults and Teachers at Sunday School
Our Sunday School program is led by a dedicated team of Sunday School Coordinators who plan and organize the program for the year.
The coordinators are supported by a group of Sunday School teachers who work together to team-teach the children in their class time. Our goal is to have three teachers for each age group. The teachers are scheduled in a rotation, so they only teach a few weeks in a row, then they have several Sundays “off”.
Little or no experience is required to join our team of teachers. All that is required is enthusiasm and a love for children and having fun. The excellent curriculum allows our volunteers to grow along with the children. Most of our teachers say they learn more from teaching Sunday school than they did attending years before!!!
